03.10.2009
Such decision was unanimously taken today, on 1 October, by members of Presidium of the Belarusian Radio and Electronic Workers Union (REWU). On 7 October trade unions of the entire world celebrate the Day of Struggle for Decent Work.
This year independent trade unions of Belarus - REWU and Belarusian Congress of Democratic Trade Unions - decided to conduct a joint meeting, dedicated to this date. In the course of event they plan to raise demands to the Government. Inter alia - revocation of contractual employment system, three month salary payment to workers after the contract is terminated (what is especially important in times of crisis) and increasing amount of unemployment benefits.
An application to hold a meeting on 7 October from 16.30 till 18.30 at the open concert ground in the Recreation and Leisure Park, named after 50 anniversary of October Revolution was sent to the Minsk City Executive Committee. According to the Law, the city authorities shall inform about their decision not later than 5 (five) working days prior to the event.
However, as of today, 1 October 2009 the REWU have not received an answer.
As Nickolay Gerasimenko, head of the REWU press-service told “Salidarnast”, Gennady Fedynich, the Organization’s Chairperson called the Minsk City Executive Committee in order to find out what kind of decision has been taken by the authorities. However, no information was made available and Minsk City Executive Committee official only mentioned that the answer would be provided on the stipulated date.
At the same time, simple mathematical calculations drive to a conclusion that the stipulated date has already passed.
