The Republic of Belarus is a member of the International Labor Organization. Following ratification of the ILO Conventions, including ¹87 and ¹98, the Republic of Belarus assumed responsibility to observe fundamental rights of workers - to unite into trade unions in order to protect their interests and negotiate freely conditions of life and work of their members.

  • 18.11.2008 For the Seventh Time the Mogilev Authorities Refuse Registration to Trade Union
    The Mogilev City Executive Committee spent more than two months instead of one, envisaged by legislation, yet it could not make a decision on registration of primary city organization of the Belarusian Radio and Electronics Workers’ Union (REWU). Officials demanded additional documents that have been not stipulated by the Instruction on Registration and illegally summoned trade union activists “for a conversation”. All this was going on until on 4 November the Lessor has notified the City Executive Committee about the intention to withdraw legal address provided to the trade union organization earlier. And officials at once made the decision - to refuse registration to trade union. It took place for the seventh (!) time.more >>

    At present activists of the Belarusian Radio and Electronics Workers’ Union (REWU) are involved in dissemination of information about their proposals to the new General Agreement for 2009-2011 at large enterprises of the country.     The Belarusian Radio and Electronics Workers’ Union (REWU) for 5 years has been trying to register its city primary organization in Mogilev. The last time the documents have been submitted to the City Executive Committee this August. It is the seventh time that the activists received information that Mogilev City authorities refuse registration. On top of this trade union members are called to the City Executive Committee Ideological Department to “talk”.more >>

  • 31.10.2008 REWU activists will approach MPs requesting to restore privileges
    On Saturday 25 October, 120 activists of the Belarusian Radio and Electronics Workers’ Union (REWU), supporting return of privileges for travel, have gathered at the Minsk office of the organization to decide how to act further. Minsk City authorities have three times turned down requests of initiators of returning privileges to carry out organizational meeting without which they cannot collect signatures.   • 20.10.2008 Part of “BelWest” Workers Wish to Leave Official Trade Union
    Almost twenty workers of “BelWest” enterprise (Vitebsk) have written applications to quit membership with the Belarusian Light Industry Trade Union, protesting against the order of management to compensate the revealed shortage with means of their wages. They are ready to create a primary organization of independent trade union. Angela Svistunova, Chairperson of the official trade union committee has refused to comment on a situation. As she said, financial status of the enterprise is “stable and normal”, and half of those dissatisfied have already withdrawn their applications.more >>

  • 10.10.2008 Primary Organization of Free Trade Union Entered into Labor Dispute with the Employer
    Conference of Free Trade Union of Belarus (SPB) activists-workers of Open Joint Stock Company “Polotsk Fiber Glass” on 7 October adopted a decision to send a letter to the employer, demanding to include into the collective agreement 13 of 15 provisions which became subject of disagreement between trade union and the management. Victor Stukov, the SPB primary organization Chairperson has informed about it. In essence it means that the trade union has entered into labor dispute with the employer.more >>
